Dr. Shohini Ghose Appointed as CTO of the Quantum Algorithms Institute: Leading Quantum Physicist and Quantum Computing Visionary

The Quantum Algorithms Institute is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Shohini Ghose as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). A distinguished physicist renowned for her groundbreaking work in quantum computing, Dr. Ghose brings exceptional expertise and leadership to the forefront of the organization’s mission.

According to Louise Turner, CEO of the Quantum Algorithms Institute, “We are honored to welcome Dr. Ghose as our CTO. Her profound insights and remarkable contributions to the quantum computing field are truly inspiring. Ghose’s appointment reinforces QAI’s commitment to B.C.’s leadership in quantum research and commercialization. With her visionary leadership in quantum computing, we are well positioned to help move quantum computing from lab to industry adoption.”

Dr. Ghose, a Professor of Physics and Computer Science at Wilfrid Laurier University, holds the distinguished NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering (Ontario). Her influential research focuses on quantum computing and communication, and she is acclaimed for her foundational work linking chaos theory and quantum entanglement.

Dr. Ghose is a member of the Government of Canada’s Quantum Advisory Council established to shape and monitor the development of the National Quantum Strategy. Her involvement in strategic decision-making is helping position Canada as a global leader in quantum innovation.

Dr. Ghose has earned both national and international recognition for her leadership. She has served on the expert panel on quantum technologies for the Canadian Council of Academies and is the Chair of the new Working Group on Quantum Science and Technology of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).

With a strong commitment to equity and inclusivity, Dr. Ghose shattered barriers by becoming the first person of color to be elected President of the Canadian Association of Physicists. Her advocacy efforts extend to co-developing Canada’s Dimensions program fostering diversity and equity in academia.

Dr. Ghose’s achievements in quantum computing and communications include receiving a TED Senior Fellowship, and a recent article on quantum computing was featured in the Harvard Business Review’s Year in Tech 2022. Her book, “Her Space, Her Time: How trailblazing women scientists decoded the hidden universe,” showcases her dedication to highlighting the contributions of women in science.
